The hilltop district of Roccastrada dates back to the Middle Ages, when it was a possession of the Aldobrandeschi family.
It’s located in the Maremma Grossetana and together with other 7 districts it constitutes the Technological and Archeological Park of the Colline Metallifere (metal-producing hills). Roccatederighi, Torniella, Montemassi and Roccastrada are medieval walled towns, and there are beautiful ancient castles, like the one in Montemassi which was built just after year 1000 and later portrayed by Simone Martini in the famous fresco housed at Palazzo Pubblico in Siena; the castles between Torniella and Pari in the Riserva naturale Farma, in Sassofortino and Roccatederighi.
The Theatre named Teatro dei Concordi dominates the modern centre with its outstanding neo-Renaissance facade, and in the summer it hosts cultural events. From this interesting small district you can easily reach the splendid beaches of the area and other places of cultural interest.
